Celium Surge · E-invoicing for SARS & MRA

SARS VAT Modernisation is Coming.Your ERP Infrastructure Changes Zero Lines of Code.

Celium Surge connects the systems you already run to SARS and MRA e-invoicing — and keeps invoicing moving when the tax authority’s systems don’t. No ERP upgrade, no database changes, no new screens for your finance team.

MauritiusAlready e-invoicing? Surge clears MRA invoices in real time.

In Mauritius every invoice must be cleared by the MRA before it’s issued — and SARS plans to reach every point of sale next. When the authority slows down, Surge holds your invoices so your tills keep moving.

Built for

  • Peppol PINT
  • UBL 2.1
  • AS4 transport
  • SARS 5-corner model
  • MRA Invoice Fiscalisation Platform

Why now

Tax is going real-time. Most ERPs aren’t.

Revenue authorities are replacing retrospective returns with live, machine-readable invoices. The systems your business runs on were never designed for that — and they shouldn’t have to be.

Large multinationals will run multi-year programmes with global advisory firms. Celium Surge is built for everyone else: mid-sized businesses that need enterprise-grade compliance without an enterprise-sized project.

Mauritius

Live

Real-time e-invoicing is mandatory now.

Phased in since May 2024, MRA fiscalisation now covers traders with turnover above MUR 40 million. Every invoice is cleared in real time and carries an IRN and QR code.

Planned

SARS has published its plan.

The 2026 VAT Modernisation consultation proposes structured e-invoices through accredited providers, near real-time reporting and pre-filled returns — phased in, large businesses first.

Your board

Visible

Every discrepancy, in near real time.

When the authority sees your invoices as they happen, gaps stop hiding in month-end spreadsheets. Compliance becomes an operational risk, not a filing task.

How it works

What happens when the tax engine slows down.

Government systems face traffic spikes, maintenance windows and outages. Celium Surge sits between you and them, so their bad day never becomes yours.

  1. 01

    Accepted instantly.

Your system hands the invoice to Surge and gets an acknowledgement in milliseconds. The till prints, the customer leaves. Nothing waits on the tax authority.

    Intake01
    POST /v1/invoices→ 202 Accepted{  "id": "inv_8f2c41",  "status": "QUEUED"}
  2. 02

    Buffered durably.

Every invoice is written to a durable regional queue. Each one carries a unique fingerprint, so it can never be lost — and never be filed twice.

  3. 03

    Retried patiently.

If the network, SARS or the MRA is slow or offline, Surge keeps trying with measured back-off. Anything that needs a human is set aside safely and flagged — never dropped.

  4. 04

    Confirmed and returned.

Once delivery is confirmed, Surge sends the result straight back to your ERP — status and invoice IDs, plus the IRN and QR code in Mauritius — ready for the receipt and the audit file.

    Received and posted.

In South Africa, supplier e-invoices addressed to you arrive through our certified Peppol Access Point partners. Surge maps them to your ERP’s format and posts them into accounts payable — matched to the supplier, checked for duplicates, accepted or rejected — so your input VAT lines up with what suppliers reported to SARS.

Security & reliability

You’re trusting us with your billing stream. Surge is engineered around isolation, durability and a complete audit trail from day one.

Isolated by design

Every business’s data is separated at the database engine itself, not just in application code.

Encrypted end to end

TLS in transit and encryption at rest, across every service that touches your invoices.

Seven-year audit vault

Every submission and authority response is archived to write-once storage that can’t be altered.

Never filed twice

Each invoice is fingerprinted on arrival. Resends and retries are recognised and ignored.

Built on Rust

A memory-safe, compiled engine chosen for predictable performance under heavy load.

Designed for POPIA

Data minimisation, access control and clear retention built in from the first line of code.

Step 1

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is e-invoicing mandatory in South Africa yet?

Not yet. SARS published its VAT Modernisation consultation paper in August 2026, proposing structured e-invoicing, near real-time reporting and a phased rollout that starts with large businesses. No mandatory date has been set — which makes now the cheapest time to prepare.Read our SARS e-invoicing guide →

We’re in Mauritius and already fiscalising invoices. Can Surge help?

Yes. MRA e-invoicing is mandatory in stages since May 2024 and now reaches traders above MUR 40 million turnover. Surge connects your existing billing system to the MRA in real time, returns the IRN and QR code to your system, and keeps your tills moving if the platform is slow.Read our MRA e-invoicing guide →

Who is Celium Surge for?

Mid-sized businesses, groups and their advisers in South Africa and Mauritius — typically running established systems such as Sage, Syspro or custom-built software — who need to comply with e-invoicing without a costly ERP upgrade or a long consulting programme.

Do I need my own Access Point?

No. In South Africa, Surge works with certified Peppol Access Point partners. They handle the secure AS4 network exchange and reporting to SARS, while Surge connects them to your ERP in both directions. You don’t need to find, contract or integrate an Access Point yourself.

Can Surge receive supplier invoices too?

Yes. Supplier e-invoices addressed to you arrive through our Access Point partners. Surge maps them to your ERP’s format and posts them into accounts payable as purchase invoices — with supplier matching, duplicate checks and accept or reject responses — so your input VAT lines up with what suppliers reported to SARS.

Do we need to change our ERP or accounting system?

No. Surge connects to what you already run — by receiving a file or API call your system already produces, by reading your existing tables with a secure read-only agent, or through a cloud connector. Your finance team keeps working exactly as they do today.

What happens if SARS or the MRA is slow or offline?

Your system still gets an instant acknowledgement, so checkouts and billing carry on. Surge holds each invoice in a durable queue and keeps retrying until the authority confirms it, then sends the result back to you automatically.

Could an invoice be lost or submitted twice?

Surge is designed so that neither happens. Every invoice is stored durably before we acknowledge it, and each one is fingerprinted so resends and retries are recognised and never filed twice.

Where is our data stored, and who can see it?

Your data is isolated from every other customer at the database level, encrypted in transit and at rest, and retained in a tamper-proof archive for audit purposes. We’ll walk through hosting and data residency in detail during your integration review.

When can we start?

We’re onboarding a limited pilot cohort now. Submit your integration profile and we’ll be in touch to plan your onboarding.

How is Celium Surge priced?

Pricing is usage-based — a fee per processed invoice — so it scales with your business. Pilot terms are shared during your integration review.
